2024-02-Newsletter

2024 - February

Our January meeting had a few new attendees and several repeat attendees so we are gradually growing.  It helped new attendees find the Maketory from information in the last newsletter that the Maketory shares a building with a company named Reprohaus that has a big lit-up sign on top of the right side of the building.

The February meeting will focus on Projection, one of the Four Ps of Inventing by President Greg Wawrzniak:

a) evaluating an invention's potential
b) ways to turn a promising invention into a marketable product
c) building a team to run a profitable venture

Every meeting will provide an opportunity for attendees to share their invention milestones and successes in the “What’s New” portion of our meeting.   Inventors may also make requests of what help or advice they needed to move forward with their product in the “What’s Needed” section of our meeting.

Our Inventor Spotlight section will feature the success of one or more long-time inventors that hold many patents.  If you would like to share your success at a future meeting, please let us know.

For new attendees at each meeting, SDIF board member, Michele Nash-Hoff, also gives a brief description of the disastrous effect on inventors’ patent rights created by the America Invents Act of 2011, especially by the creation of the Patent Trial and Review Board (PTAB) that has been invalidating up to 84% of patents in the past couple of years.  At January’s meeting, she briefly described the work of US Inventors to restore patent rights since Paul Morinville founded the organization in 2014.  US Inventor is the only organization representing small inventors, businesses, and startups to enact change that supports these groups, and it has grown to about 87,000 members over the past couple of years.  Please support the Inventor’s Rights Resolution, which you can sign here.

SDIF President's Message
Fellow Inventors, unless you have been hibernating inside a cave, you know by now that the information age has arrived and is here to stay ... and AI is not an abstract concept anymore.
We have no choice but to forge an alliance with AI and use it for consolidating information, identifying trends, and grasping what is going on in this world and within its increasingly tumultuous body of knowledge.
Luckily, in-person inventor's meetings/Workshops help us transition into the new reality the more old-fashioned way, more naturally, with help of other like-minded individuals.
Greg Wawrzyniak
A tour of the Maketory will be provided to first time attendees so they can see what facilities and equipment are available to help them with their product development. The Maketory offers private office suites, private work studios, on-site storage for materials and supplies, free Wi-Fi, and free parking. The ground floor of the facility contains a wood shop, metal shop, welding area, prototype/assembly area, 34 private work studios, and a blacksmith shop outside the back of the building.  The second floor has both a small and large conference room, an open space for meetings or training sessions, and private offices.
