At our August meeting, Chris Baker, President of On Target Design & Mfg. gave an overview of the design to prototype to patent to production process. Chris shared several specific examples of how he helped inventors create the mechanical design for their new products. He also shared his experience in inventing and marketing his own inventions.
At our September meeting, SDIF board member, Michele Nash-Hoff, will give her presentation “How to Select the Right Processes and Sources for Your New Products.” Michele has over 30 years experience as a sales representative for American companies performing fabrication services to make mechanical parts for products. Often, there is more than one way to make a particular mechanical part depending on the environment in which the product will be used, the annual production volume projected, and what certifications may be required such as U/L, FDA approval, or ISO. She will also discuss the pro and cons of outsourcing overseas vs. making in the USA.
Each month, we are seeing several new attendees in addition to those who are becoming regular attendees at our meeting location at the law offices of Knobbe Martens, 3579 Valley Centre Drive, Suite 300, San Diego, CA 92130.
The San Diego Inventors Forum supports the work of the national organization, US Inventors, to restore patent rights since the organization was founded in 2014 after the passage of the America Invents Act of 2011. US Inventor is the only organization representing small inventors, businesses, and startups to enact change that supports these groups, and it has grown to about 87,000 members over the past couple of years. If you haven’t already signed the Inventor’s Rights Resolution, you can sign here.
At past meetings, Michele briefly described two new bills that have been sponsored and introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie and Rep. Marcy Kaptur in Congress. Congress is back in session for a short amount of time before recessing for the election. We urge you to contact your Congressional Representative and ask them to support these bills. If you don’t know who your Congressional Representative is, you can find who he/she is by using your zip code at this link. Then, you can call the U.S. House switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to get connected to the office of your Representative.

SDIF President's Message
Happy Anniversary SDIF !!!
We have been holding our SDIF in-person meetings for 12 consecutive months now!
Covid is done and a distant memory for most, still the political power brokers try to keep it looming over our heads especially during the voting and flu season.
Despite all that, the attendance at our meeting is steadily growing, and SDIF is well on track to reaching its former glory. We are working on gathering supporters and sponsors with the aim and ambition to hold/reinstate our own annual Invention Contest (possibly as soon as this November, with your help & support!)
SDIF board members volunteer their time and talent to keep our inventors informed, motivated, and focused on things that are important on the path to success.
A BIG "Thank You" goes out to Tapio Vahamaki our SDIF treasurer for the past twelve months and a BIG welcome to Graig Harris - our new treasurer going forward.
Please give us your vote of confidence and attend our meetings regularly, bringing your ideas for all to see. See you all at the next meeting."
